Gay couple in anime
Since then there have been some updates and changes. So here are some of my favs! Of course, I will start off with my most favorite anime, Sailor Moon. This show boast two couples, the first one being my most favorite, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune Hakura and Michiru. I had initially thought that she was actually a guy who changed genders when she transformed into a Sailor Scout.
But of course after much researching, that turned out not to be the case. I find them to be the most beautiful couple of the series rather than picking the obvious choice of Usagi and Mamoru.

In Sailor Moon CrystalI loved their designs because they were made to be even more pretty! I loved how the couple gave them their own ending song and sequence. I wish the song was on iTunes…. It was almost as if they were saying incest was better than being two girls in love. So glad this was remedy with the newer re-releases.
The next couple also comes from Sailor Moonbut on the villain side of the spectrum. They are Zoisite and Kunzite from the first story arc to play though both the manga and the anime. And again, with research and reading many Sailor Moon translated magazine articles, much to my surprise, Zoisite was a man.
But like with Uranus and Neptune, I liked it a lot better that it was two guys together. But at least with this couple, if you really had to, you could make them an ordinary couple without throwing some type of weird family incest thing into the mix. The reason why I started watching this anime was the advertising on the box stated that the same animation team that worked on Sailor Moon had worked on this television anime.
On initial watching, I loved the designs and could see some of the similarity in the animation. Again, knowing that Utena and Anthy were a couple in this gay made me love it even more. I remembered reading an article about the from the now long out of print Animerica Magazine and part of the article had an interview with the shows director, Kunihiko Ikuhara.
He made a very great point about why Utena and Anthy had become a couple, and why it was necessary. He mentioned how most of the men on the show had ugly souls due gay the school system in place; and how they had abused Anthy and Utena to gain power that they thought was theirs. In that aspect, he said he would rather have two beautiful girls together than put them with any of the men.
I absolutely agree with him there. Plus it really put in anime forefront that Utena was not about to conform to gender roles, as she always came to school wearing wearing a boys uniform. She also draws the attention of all the girls at the school, anime athleticism and bravado that most men there were lacking.
